Tomorrow, June 06, will be the next meeting of AREU at the Bell Shoals
Baptist Church.
I have comitted to try to tune up a duplexer for Tony (N2MFT) and will bring
the apropriate
test equipment.
I also have a microphone for George.
Tonight I finished a 2 meter to 23 cm transverter. I have been collecting
the parts for some
time now and just tonight got a "wild hair" to put it together. It puts out
about 30 watts and has
a preamplifier with a .7 db noise figure. It should do well hooked up to my
25 element loop
Yagi. I will bring the unit for show and tell with a wattmeter for proof of
performance.
I also tried to beef up my 10 GHz transverter but failed miserably. I
ordered some two stage
amplifiers from DEMI and build two of them by the instructions. I don't know
what
happened but they have absoutely no gain (actually quite a bit of
attenuation). I am trying
to get in touch with Steve to find out what I did wrong. I used the
prodecures I have
always used and evidently four MMICs failed in two amplifiers. I still have
two more
amplifiers that are still in the sack and will wait to talk to Steve before
I try to construct them.
I will purchase some more MMICs and repair the first two units when I figure
out what
I did wrong. Four amplifiers are required for two 10 GHz stations.
That will net me two 10 GHz stations with about 8 mw of power and a noise
figure of
about 4 db. That's enough for a 100 + mile line of site path and even more
when conditions
are favorable. I am not using dishes yet and only have 8 db horn antennas on
both ends.
An 18 inch dish on each end will give 50 more db of signal strength.
Thats a multiplier of 10,000!!!!!!!!!
I will not bring the 10 GHz stuff as it is rather bulky at present and,
without the amplifiers,
is the same as the last time I demonstrated it. When I get the units
upgraded I will schedule
a multi-mile test from some high structures around Brandon and Tampa. Does
anybody have
any ideas? I was thinking about the parking garage of the Brandon hospital
to the top of
St Joseph's hospital in North Tampa. We would need to have someone "in the
know"
at both places to get permission to try it. We can use the local repeaters
for coordination.
If there is anyone with possible information or contacts, get with me.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at AREU tomorrow night around 7:00 PM at
the
Bell Shoals Baptist Church. The meeting room is on the North side of the
church on
Overhill Road. Get on the Brandon repeater for talk in (147.165, plus
offset, 136.5 Hz tone).

Tony
