It's that time again and I will have the equipment ready for a demonstration
of the 10 GHz amateur band. I already have two working transceiver but
I need to construct another transverter interface power supply box
to make it truly portable. I will at least have the system working with a
couple of power supplies from the work bench.
Both systems will work with the help of a 2 meter, all mode transceiver.
The transverters convert the 2 meter signal to the amateur 3 cm. band.
For those who are not familiar with metric measurements, this means that
the wavelength is 3 cm. or just over an inch. In comparison the wavelength
of an 80 meter signal is 3163 inches. The exact frequency we will be using
is 10386.1 MHz which is the national 3 cm. weak signal calling frequency.
This is like the 144.2 MHz weak signal calling frequency on 2 meters.
The power output of the transverters is about 200 microwatts. This is
not much but if you think about the antennas you can build for this
frequency you will find that this low power can be quite effective.
I am using a 20 db gain horn (a power multiplier of 100) on one end
of the link and a spiral antenna (zero reference gain) on the other end.
I will eventually have a horn for both ends and may have them ready
by Tuesday.
Come on down and make a contact on the 3 cm. band and send
some QSL cards. There are not too many folks that have these cards.
