[AReU] AREU Meeting Next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, June 01, 2004 is the June meeting of the AREU group at the
Bell Shoals Baptist Church. I'm looking forward to seeing a good group
there.
We will have tales of the trip to the Dayton Hamvention plus some stuff that
we brought back. I have some pictures of the trip that I will bring along.

The two things that I brought back were fairly small and cheap. I purchased
a Tiny Trac 3 APRS unit that makes it very easy to make a rudimentary APRS
mobile installation. I have not constructed it yet but I may put it together
over
the Memorial Day weekend. I also purchased a partially complete transverter
for 2304 MHz. This is the 13 cm amateur band and I believe I can get one of
the MMDS dishes that I was using for the AO40 downlink to tune to this
frequency. If I can, it will be a nice 20 db gain antenna. I will need it
since the
transverter only puts out 15 mw. I will convert an old IC251A for an IF
transceiver for this transverter.

I also found a 1296 MHz transverter on the ARRL classified list that I
purchased.
I am waiting on it to arrive in the mail. It is one of the older DEMI units
but the
owner said it worked very well. It puts out about 10 mw but I have a 4 watt
amplifier for this band that I never got around to using. It is a relic from
AO40
days and has never been used. I hope the unit arrives in the mail in time
for the
AREU meeting.

By the way, does anyone know what a "rat race" mixer is?

Maybe we will figure it out at the meeting.
