I have recently traded for an Amateur Television Transmitter that operates
on cable channels 59 or 60. It puts about 35 watts RMS and about 50 watts
peak. I plan on transmitting tomorrow night during the Brandon Amateur Radio
Society net on cable channel 59.
All that is required is a cable ready TV set tuned to cable channel 59 and a
vertically polarized antenna such as you would use for UHF FM. Either a beam
or a omni will be OK. I will be operating on my discone antenna at 25 feet
which has very low gain so a fairly good antenna will be required if you are
more that 5 to 7 miles from my location.
I live about 3/4 mile from the club meeting place in South East Brandon. The
net starts at 8:00 PM and I will begin my transmissions then. I will shut
down if the amplifier overheats or if I get any static from the neighbors.
There are cable channels on 59 and 60 but the cable system is very well
shielded and it should not be a problem.
Let me know if you plan to "look" for my signal or need any further
information on receiving the signal.
