Things are looking up for the AREU meeting next Thursday. Mike (W4UOO) is
bringing
a friend that has a set of 220 MHz duplexers for his repeater. If Ron will
bring the spectrum
analyzer, we will check them out. I'm sure that many folks have not seen the
amazing
response curve of a typical duplexer. The very idea of operating a 100 watt
transmitter
and a very sensitive receiver on the same band and on the same antenna was
very hard
for me to believe at first. It's true however and the spectrum analyzer will
show you how
it's done.

In addition, I have finished construction of the Elecraft K2 transceiver
that I purchased at
the Sklies estate sale. There are still a few pieces of the case missing but
the radio works
like a top. It is CW only and puts out 10 watts but I plan to buy the SSB
adapter and
a noise blanker for it. The case is not complete and the knobs are missing
so it looks kind
of forlorn but when you turn it on, it is pretty amazing. I will bring my
YO-YO antenna so
that we may make a few CW contacts at the meeting.

I won't go into the problems I had getting it going but let it suffice to
say that it was not as
hard as building it from scratch. The original owner did a great job of
getting it put together.
Too bad that he didn't get a chance to see the fruits of his labors.

Looking forward to seeing a bunch of folks at the meeting Tuesday at 7:00 PM
at the Bell
Shoals Baptist Church. Talk in is on the Brandon Repeater (147.165 +, PL
136.5 Hz).
