We had a great AREU meeting last Tuesday (07/1/2003). Jim (N0FPP) was there
with a noise bridge and demonstrated how to use it to tune antennas, check
the
electrical length of feedlines and help to calibrate another noise bridge. I
had my
Elecraft K2 HF transceiver there also hoping to demonstrate how it could
work
on an indoor "Yo-Yo" antenna. We didn' do any good on calling the 10 meter
round table on 28.365 USB but by some quirk of fate heard Dennis calling CQ
on 20 meters. You would not believe the odds of this chance
encounter!!!!!!!!!
We made contact with Dennis on 14.185 USB and chatted with him for a few
minutes. It was his first mobile contact. We were using the 10 meter antenna
and
the K2 didn't like it much but it did a fine job. We later extended the
antenna to
20 meters but still didn't have any luck except for Dennis.
We had a good crowd even after the rigors of Field Day. Everyone had (more
or
less) recovered from the festivities. If they had been any more festive I
would
not have been able to stand them. I finally got my water level back up to
normal
on Wednesday. I had been operating in deficit conditions until then.
Does anyone have any projects that we can discuss at the next AREU meeting?
If so, just let me know or post a note on the reflector. I have just about
exhausted
my list of projects for the moment. Just about any topic that isn't immoral,
illegal
or fattening will be welcomed (donuts are the exception).
If you have any projects that you would like to have help with just let us
know
and bring it on down. I have stopped taking in work for the time being. It
seemed
that I was getting further and further behind and was not enjoying my shop
very
much. I am only working on personal projects and am not feeling any self
induced "pressure" to get work out the door. It is a much appreciated
relief.
I am looking forward to the next AREU meeting!!!!!
