The signals were outstanding tonight. I was able to hear my downlink with
5 watts to the antenna and could hear my SSB downlink clearly at this
power level. I didn't make any QSO's but I heard a couple of guys calling
CQ up and down the band. All signals I heard were armchair copy.
They were perfectly clear and no trouble copying.

I am also seeing astounding stability in the Transsystem downconverter with
the heated crystal. I can set the frequency readout on the Uniden 2600
and be right on frequency without ever looking at the "S" meter and with
the volume all the way down. I correct for Doppler with the factor shown
on Instant Track.

I was hoping for a good pass for the AREU meeting next Tuesday but
it is not to be. Maybe next month.

I purchased a couple of aluminum tool carrying cases at Home Depot
the other day. They make great carrying cases for portable equipment.
I have one set up for AO40 and another that I haven't quiet decided what
to do with yet. They are only $20.00 and look great. I have in mind a case
full of antenna building stuff to use in case of emergencies or portable
operation at picnics etc. I will bring the cases along and accept ideas
as to how to accomplish these goals.

Has anybody built a "J" pole with TV twin lead? I am interested in building
one for 2 meters and 70 cm. There is a dual band version in QST this
month but I don't think I want a combined antenna. Separate ones will
be easier to build and will probably work better.

See you Tuesday Feb. 04!!!!!!!!!
