Subject: [AReU] KB4JHU and W4TAS complete QSO on AO40
Well Mike (KB4JHU) had a booming signal around 6:00 PM EST this
evening on 2401.370 Mhz or there abouts. His uplink was around
435.361 MHz or there abouts. Mike and I had armchair copy on
each other and had about a 10 minute QSO. Uplink signals were
so good that I had to reduce power to keep the "alligator cop" from
getting me. Mike also reported getting caught by the "alligator cop"
once or twice.
Mike has been working on his AO40 station for some time now and
finally made the grade in fine style. His first attempt was very-very
successful. His uplink antenna is a 30 element cross polarized Yagi
with a 2 X 3 ft. Primestar dish, 4 turn helix and a Transsystem 3731
downconverter on the downlink. He was running 50 watts tonight with
lossy coaxial cable. He reported only 10 watts to the antenna.
Congratulations to Mike on "making the grade".

Tony
