If I'm not mistaken the AREU meeting for September is next Tuesday. Ed will
not be able to make it but we will continue on in good faith until he is
able to return.
He is scheduled for surgery on his back Wednesday. He will be "down and out"
for a few weeks but we are hoping that he will return with a lot less (maybe
nill) pain than he has had for many years.
Please be sending Ed prayers and good wishes.
As for the meeting, I plan to bring the continuing saga of my 2 meter to 23
cm. transverter. I have almost got the indoor part of it finished. The final
amplifier and receiver preamplifier will be at or near the antenna to
minimize feedline loss. I hope to have it completed by Tuesday but probably
will not have it checked out thoroughly.
I also purchased an MFJ-6 meter SSB rig at the TARC fest last Saturday. I
have been having a ball with it and have made a couple of contacts to
Michigan and New York. The New York contact was "barefoot" but the Michigan
contact was with the help of a "home brew" 6 meter amplifier that I got from
Mike (W4UOO) last year with and ICOM IC 502 6 meter SSB/CW rig. I will bring
the rig and amplifier for your inspection.
I came upon a circuit board that was used for transmission of location
signals in the 850 MHz range for trailers. I don't know what kind of
trailers but the total unit had solar cells and batteries for operation
separate of the vehicle power source. The board was practically useless but
attached with three screws was a Trimble GPS "blind" receiver. I will bring
it and see if anyone can tell me how to get it to work with an APRS setup. I
hope Mike (KB4JHU) can make it. He might just have the know how to hook it
up.
Hope to see a bunch of you guys at the meeting Tuesday.
