Definitely don't get rid of it. I have been wondering how one of
those would do on AO40.
I am building up a test oscillator for 2.4 GHz. We could install a
feed antenna on it and check the gain. Maybe we ought to get together
one Saturday at Davis Park and do some dish antenna testing.
We could put the oscillator about 100 yds away from the test site
and run some pretty good tests on my 30 turn helix, R Myers BBQ
grill, Ed's BBQ grill, Ed's small reflector, my Primestar dish, your
Dish Network dish and others that we could skull up.
We can make the polarization of the source linear RHCP or LHCP.
The satellite is RHCP and I would have to wind a RHCP
helix but that is not a problem at all. I already have a LHCP
helix I am using now for my downlink.
The polarity changes from RHCP to LHCP when the signal
reflects off of the dish. If you were testing the 30 turn helix you would
need RHCP at the transmitter whereas if you were testing a
feed antenna without the dish you would need a LHCP transmitting
antenna.
I wonder what the members would think about this?
Does anyone have suggestions?
BTW the AREU meeting has been changed to next Tuesday because
of problems getting the meeting room opened up.
