Ohio District 3 ARES has standardized on Anderson Power Poles.
Our understanding is that the ARRL is no longer recommending the Molex
1545's (or anything else) as a standard connector. There is supposed to
be a revision in the next ARES Field Book to that effect.
Some corrections to your discussion link:
The APP's are available in sizes up to multi-hundred amps, with
corresponding ability to handle different gauges of wire. There are
panel mount versions available, including at least 3 types of commercial
power distribution boxes that I am aware of.
They are available from multiple vendors mail order, and, in some areas,
at local outlets.
See our web site for links and further discussion.

Hope this helps, 73

ARRL recommends a Molex 1545 which no one is using due to availability. What is being used are Radio Shack 274-222's, Radio Shack 274-151's and Anderson Powerpole connectors. To see pictures of these connectors go to www.mcares.org and click on the Connector Discussion link on the left of the page.
