In early 1960s i talked to a salesman at the Rhodes Department store in Seattle, now an art museum, i think. He told me he had been a ship radio op in WW1. He told me the charge on the antenna was at times strong enough to knock the crystal
detector out of adjustment. He also said he had "been in the water twice", which i didn't understand at first. Now i wish i had arranged to interview more in depth, but i was only a first year High School student and didn't know nuthin'.
