For decades I have been unsuccessful in finding information or sourcing for those little slide snap fasteners that we encounter everywhere.  But I recently came across an obscure listing of "SCR-274-N Spare Parts"... T.O.16-55-109, 25 November 1944. It lists a multitude of parts that are not necessarily "spares" in the sense of being replaceable. It goes real deep... tubes, capacitors, brackets, terminal boards, and more. One item:

Item no. 125, Reference 124, Quantity 1: COVER, transmitter: hinged; metallic mirror on underside for viewing resonance indicator tube; for tube and crystal compartment. WE #7459

At what echelon would they have stocked that one?

So there I found full descriptions of the three essential parts of every slide snap fastener, including full dimensions for the various sizes:

the "Button", 3 different sizes

the "Guide", 3 different sizes

and the "Fastener", 5 different sizes

all with part numbers like WE-3890, WE-4750 (Western Electric??)

It may not be the answer to where to find them, but short of the actual drawings, it's a fun revelation.

It would be nice to be able to replace some where needed.

Has anyone ever found a source?

Ken
