I genuinely cannot fathom a  BC-221 ,being used as an AM transmitter.  First  no mic input, second, hapower out is arguably less than a mw.  Just saying...

Standard setup in a TBF/TBM was a Collins ARC-1 RT (VHF) set that was the pilots radio, and an ART-13/ARB set (HF) with ZB homing device for the radioman, at least according to reattach done through the USN Aviation museum at Pearl Harbor. Homing device was a ZB series homing device (later the ARR-2 ). The TBF was originally supposed to have the Bendix ATD transmitter instead of the ART-13 ( ATC) but Collins won the big Navy contract, beating the RCA ATB and the Bendix ATD, although the ATD may have been installed in some aircraft. The only aircraft I have been able to document through photographic evidence as being fitted out with the RCA ATB transmitter were some PBY Catalina aircraft built for Quantas Airlines in 1940-41. I’m still trying to put together the the radios for a museum TBM aircraft. I have the ARC-1 set complete.  I still need the MT-284 shock mount or the later, simpler USN shock mount for the ART-13. I have the complete set for the ARB. Very frustrating in that the only thing I’m missing for the ART-13 is the darned shock mount. I’d like to get the whole thing done and get it working and installed in the aircraft. 
 
I also still need the Antenna Relay CRV-29076 to complete a GF-12/RU-17  set that would also be museum bound.  That set would be displayed along with an a Douglas SBD-5 dive bomber at the same museum the TBM is at. The hunt for these last few parts has been frustrating as all get out.

Decades back, Harry Lewis, ARRL SCM for WA, had a story in 'Worldradio' mag abt a radio op flying into AK and the liaison transmitter failed, so he used the BC-221 to call the airfield. As i write this i realize there's a problem with his story that hadn't dawned on me before. I am sure he has left this plane of existance so i can feel relatively guilt free for saying this, but i know of 2 other instances where he told a whopper, but at least an intersting one. Perhaps i will find that Worldradio article and scan and post it here.
