There’s a fellow with a bunch of Youtube videos on “solidstate conversions of vacuum tube receivers” and i have
bought a few of his booklets. I would not say these are the most sophisticated of ‘conversions’ and i am not
thrilled with the mechanical changes done inside the radio, such as subassemblies and tossing the original
power transformer and so on. But – he’s only one person doing this, maybe a few followers, and there will be
an oversupply of ‘classic electronics’ soon enough. I bought the receiver model – specific booklets just to
expand the range of ideas i was exposed to. I must say, altho he says the modified receiver works better than
the original, i have some reservations about the ‘gain distribution’ concern in multi conversion receivers. I would
not hack the structures inside the radio either, even if there’s no shortage of idle Hammarlunds Hallicrafters and
so on.
