The strip consisted of a number of aero charts. The target and your acft bug moved around (projected) the map showing derived heading and position.  And yes... 5 minute alert. In the varn, the alert acft would be hooked up to power. The alert aircrew area was in an apartment above the barns. One was already in orange rompers and PE gear at the acft.  Both ends of the barn open to allow engine start and taxi out to the alert runway.  But, its only been 56 years....
