Thanks for that video Al, sounds similar to the AWA’s replica of the transmitters that Fred Schnell 1MO, and John Reinartz 1XAM of Connecticut and Leon Deloy 8AB Nice France used 100 years ago for the first transatlantic two way short wave contacts across the Atlantic on 27/28 November 1923.  Reinartz's design used 203s in a self rectifying Hartley power
oscillator with raw high voltage AC on the plates.  The replica was on the air 25 years ago for the 75th anniversary.  Too bad it wasn’t brought back for the centennial anniversary last month.  Remember working it 25 years ago, sounded like a buzz saw or a hive of angry bees.  Articles about the original event in 1923 said 8ABs signal, running on 25 Hz power, sounded like a low pitched growl.

Very nice, indeed, Al! Thanks very much for putting so much effort into recreating retro signals.

(And thanks for having hosted the Armstrong centennial back in 2014 -- the Armstrong Foundation folks remain very grateful)

Gang,

The recent thread on "Price Insanity" reminded me that I'd put up THIS PAGE.

I think it's worth reading before you get to the RAX video at the bottom.  There are some radio sounds here that you've like never heard before.
Come play with this stuff at The Museum (on the North Jersey Shore) if you ever get a chance.
