With the recent discussion about alternate power supplies, I decided to build the voltage multiplier version for fun.
I found that higher capacitance values gave the best result . I did a 6 step multiplier using 220 uf/ 50v caps.
The transformer was a 24 volt "controls" transformer used in Hvac and furnace applications. The multiplier yielded 162 VDC.
It;s a very simple and effective "junk box" project.
