How about that KAL plane that got so far off route it flew over Russian territory ? I mean the FIRST Korean plane to do this. An aviation magazine i have, had a good article on that incident. "Total navigation systems failure", i am tempted to reply, "My
ass!" They really had no MW receiver of any kind equipped, didn't think to tune that band to see for example, even what was on that band locally, like weird music in X language ?
I recall another article, perhaps pointed out here, and online, dealing with a U-2 pilot lost and flying into USSR territory, flight path not recommended, of course. He tuned the good old "AM band" and heard Russian folk music and language. That was for
the pilot a pretty good clue he was where he shouldn't be.
