Station passage is always a trick. My flight instructor, who went tthrough his UPT long before, said that once established, side-step just a bit, on your N/S or E/W track. So when everything "blended", and the ident reversed, crossing the line is assumed. Better than nothing. I guess.

Trying to orient yourself on 4-course ranges was pretty complex. I was a pilot back when they were in use - pre Omni - and if you were on course they were O.K., but if you messed up crossing the range in cloud or at night, figuring just where you were was not easy. There was a routine to follow, but it was pretty tricky.
