I was wondering what length Peter might need for whatever he's doing. He didn't say in the original request.

It's really up to the user, Wayne.  In aircraft, there was a mock-up stage where prospective locations with receivers, transmitters, etc. were made in the airframe, and control boxes and the like were then placed wherever made the best sense from a usability standpoint.  Then all the supporting cables were laid out and measured.  Any user needs to do the same thing with their setup.  A tuning cable may be as short as a foot, or as long as 30 feet.   (Okay, hopefully not that long, but it was in some of the larger patrol aircraft.)  Shorter is better because there is more torsional twist in a longer cable, making accurate frequency setting more difficult.  I've found less than two to three feet to be acceptable.
