Hey Mike,

That was where the clock was to be mounted. Seems to be missing in several of the factory shots.

Photos attached looking forward with the GO-9 and the area just aft of the copilot. Early and later installations. Note the early pilots RU/GF which was replaced with an ATB/ARB. The radar operators position was wedged in between the GO-9 and the copilots bulkhead. You can see some of the canvas curtains that enclosed the radar position to keep it dark.

Great photo, Taigh!

Do you know about this antenna distribution box?  The center looks suspiciously like a small bass reflex speaker installation.

GO-9 is in the lower left corner of the attached photo and an ARB on the right side of the radio operators shelf. The installation in this PBY had two ARB’s. One for the pilot as well which was mounted further forward and out of the picture. They called it the Intra Squadron set. The RU is still present at the radio station as well.

In doing the PBY research for this project it has been quite interesting to see all of the changes over time in comm and radar gear.

Wasn't the ARB used with the GO-9 in acft like the PBY?

I recall reading Mike Hanz commenting some years back that the ARB was intended as a drop-in replacement for the RU.

So wouldn't be too much of a fantasy to fabricate a ARB + GF, altho in real life, I don't think anyone ever saw such.

Same form factor, and so on.

That reminds me, some acquaintance of Geoff's bought something like a "State of Alaska" "portable set" with an ARB

and ( I think ) TA-12 in one wooden trunk.
