Tune an ordinary AM radio to 915 KHZ and see if you can pick up the IF and the BFO.

 

I recall when I was using a transistorized GE World Radio portable receiver I found I could pick up that 455 KHZ IF from anywhere my apartment with my ARC R-11A.
