I am probably in the minority here, but I think PCB oil has more pros than cons, especially after seeing some of the more recent transformer fires that have destroyed massive amounts of property
and life. Mineral oil is flammable, and very much so at elevated temperatures. Dykanol, Pyranol and other PCB based oils are not. I have several Pyranol capacitors in transmitters that are happily capacitating along after fifty or sixty years.
I believe Pyranol and Dykanol capacitors were introduced in the late thirties and were produced into the seventies. I think too often our society throws the baby out with the bath water. PCBs, asbestos, mercury, beryllium oxide and Halon all have the potential to enhance performance and safety if used wisely and disposed of properly. (I draw the line at Dioxin)

I thought PCB oil was made during WWII just for the electronics market?
Seems to me I remember a scandal in post WWII Japan, some entrepreneur selling PCB oil to fry food in because it would not go rancid? Think this was transformer oil with PCB's ?

There is a whole college building near my QTH that was abandoned due to a PCB transformer fire in the basement. Its been there with a fence around it for 20 years. Crazy!
I'm not one to be afraid of components containing dielectric oil with PCBs (Pyranol, Dykanol, Diachlor, Chlorinol, Hyvol, Interteen, Chlorextol, Askarel, etc). Like you, I try not to suck on them or use the oil for frying chicken.
But there is another reason I try not to use them. I feel there is a significant risk if there is a fire. It is my understanding that if burned, PCB oil can produce some really nasty toxins that are much worse than the PCB itself.
