I used 8 MCS FT-243 crystals in my converted SCR-522 transmitter.

Steve: Per the Class 16 ASO catalog of December 1945, the 522 could use DC11, 16 or 26 crystals, as well as the MC-5 and the CR-1A, -1B and -1C crystals.

Thanks Craig - I think that is the breakthrough point.  I just saw a photo of the SCR-522 in question and it has three-hole crystal sockets.  One way the spacing is 3/4" and the other is 1/8, with one pin in common and the other two jumpered together.  So the rig looks like it can use either type.  It think that has caused the confusion in the documentation of what crystal holders can be used and their various dimensions.
