I did try 5763s; one would think they would be better,
but they were not. I have yet to find anything that works
as well or as inexpensively as 6AQ5s.
Dave Stinson did a successful replacement with 6AQ5s, and even made a conversion kit complete with PC board. You might want to contact him and see if he has some left.
