Wonder if those Yardney control boxes were made right up the road from here. Yardney had a big facility on Mechanic Street in Pawcatuck CT just across the Pawcatuck River from Westerly Rhode Island, making batteries for the DOD as well as commercial ones for many years.

Perhaps in the beginning - I don't have anything here about its initial design, but it could simply be a nod to an engineering firm or chief engineer.  Yardney isn't even listed in the NT 900109 list of suppliers.  Like much in wartime, production was likely contracted out.  The two I have here were made by the Self Winding Clock Company in Brooklyn (Mfg. code CANE).

The control boxes were an evolving assortment, starting with a simple rotary switch in a small aluminum box.  The second generation appears to be one whose manufacturer is unknown, shown in a TBM installation below.  Three others are shown at the bottom of the page at https://aafradio.org/flightdeck/box.htm - the later control heads became more like production controls for the rest of the aircraft radios, with white inserts to write in frequencies.

With the discussion going on with MAB Mikes R27 rcvr that at one time had the Yardney spot tuner mod....I thought I'd try my luck to see if anyone might have available one of the control boxes used with the Yardney modified rcvrs as used with the ART 13.
The two controls which either would work for me are the:

C-188 or C-254/AR

Thanks to Mike Hanz for providing the info and pics of these units on his excelleent web site.

Tnx
