Colleagues,
I hope that this group is the proper one to address an inquiry related
to a particular version of the URC-4 beacon from the early 1950s.
I accidentally came across an old Polish newsreel from 1953, which can
be found at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8QOQ2dgz40
From 6:10 it elaborates the case of two US agents of Polish descent,
Dionizy Sosnowski and Stefan Skrzyszowski, who were parachuted into
northern Poland in early November 1952 along with three RS-6 and an
URC-4. These agents were actually lured into a trap organized by Polish
security under Operation Cezary, and subsequently arrested. They were
eventually condemned to death in the following year and executed.
More details of their equipment from their trial can be found in another
1953 newsreel, which can be viewed here:
https://repozytorium.fn.org.pl/?q=en/node/7422
My questions are related to the particular version of the URC-4, which
can be seen on the said newsreel. The set bears telescopic counterpoises
and a tripod, which I assume were not typical for the ordinary URC-4
survival radio. Yet it's still powered from a typical JAN BA-1264
battery. The beacon was to be used as a navigation aid for future
clandestine airdrops in Poland, which did not commence given the fate of
the agents.
My questions are:
(1) Was that particular version of the beacon with the telescopic
counterpoises made in any significant quantities?
(2) Could the 'agent' version cover frequencies other than 121.5/243 MHz?
More imagery on the case can be found here:

Another photo of the URC-4 allegedly airdropped with Sosnowski and
Skrzyszowski in 1952, albeit with counterpoises detached:

Any suggestions related to the said URC-4 version with telescopic
counterpoises are welcome.
