Decades back, i donated a complete SCR-178 set to the Fort Lewis museum. The idea was put in my head by the late Tony Grogan.
It was not one of his better ideas and i regret it very much now. The museum staffer i interacted with in this exchange showed me 
 a list of their accesssions, only a minority of which were on display. I suspected they didn't really know anything when i saw listed 
a "tank radio RV12P2000". I have a great skepticism about museums now. That said, Paul Allen's 'Museum of Flight' at the Paine 
Field location north of Seattle is one i really respect. I don't think they're going to go bellyup soon and be auctioning off your donation.
