I've restuffed the "flower pots" in several SCR-274-N receivers & for me it's very satisfying work. I open the cans right below the flange using a pipe cutter tool. Go slow with the process. I take many turns before they finally separate.
Before reassembling, on a hard flat surface (I use a bit of aluminum bar) sand the cut edges square & test that they fit together right. (Be careful, as this can release fine metal hairs as the edges square-up.) At final reassembly, I use a rubber band to hold the can parts together as I adjust for the seam to be as nearly invisible as possible. Then I solder at 2 or 3 spots on the seam where it faces downward to the chassis, so the solder isn't visible. Some of these, you can't be sure were restuffed until you're very close looking for the seams.
