I was starting to think about the possibility that Command Sets had found use in ground vehicles that sets were starting to be made just for that purpose. But if there were no other RX or TX versions, that kinda kills that idea.

The US Navy had already mostly converted to 24 volt systems in aircraft before the attack on Pearl Harbor. And the USAAF was not far behind the Navy. The curious thing is that the R-148/ARC-5X navigation receiver was part of the ARC-5 series, which went into production is late ‘42-early ‘43 as a replacement/ upgrade of the ATA/ARA series of radios. Even the Western Electric GF/RU series had upgraded to 24 volt starting shortly before Pearl Harbor and the RU receivers haD dual frequency coils that allowed the RU receivers to be quickly switched from coms to air navigation in flight.  I can’t find any evidence of any other receivers or any transmitters in the ARC-5 series that were designed to use 12 volts as their power source.
