I own both BC-611 and BC-721 in good, working condition, but they are thousands of miles away in my Wisconsin shack-shop. I have been in Hawaii for about a year and a half working at WWVH, and for hobby projects I try to focus on small, lightweight ideas using the limited parts and tools I have here (or can get easily - shipping is often a big problem).
I happened to buy a nice reproduction BC-611 case for a low cost on eBay, so my natural instinct was to fill it with some electronics.
Last year I purchased and restored a PRT-4 and PRR-9 pair here for operation on 51.0 FM at Hamvention 2024. These were light enough to go to and from in my suitcase. Now I am thinking of what I can put together to get on 3885 for Hamvention 2025 that is also reasonable for travel.
I am not just trying to own and operate a BC-611 - I've done that and will do so again and again. My goal here has been to come up with interesting projects that I can do on this small island in the middle of the Pacific.
