[ARC5] Weird antenna connection....

I was converting some microfilm drawings to .pdf's today and ran across a really weird antenna lead in wire setup. It used spark plug wire to a built up insulator and a cotter key was soldered to the end for the radio. The antenna end was served with copper wire and partially soldered to the antenna wire itself. Never have seen that type of setup before, and what's remarkable, is it's on an aircraft that will do over 300 mph!
Also, anyone ever seen a catalog from American Lava, an insulator production company? The drawings reference an AL #1221 insulator, which looks like an IN-88, but is probably a bit smaller.  Didn't have any luck searching online for AL, other than a few photos and advertisements.
