I'm giving a BC-455-B command receiver a checkup with intent to operate it. It carries the BC-455-B ID plate on the side. It's missing the dynamotor & bottom cover plate but otherwise looks like it has not been diddled with, just bumped around. Internal wiring looks like all original work. The thing I didn't expect was that when firing up the filaments (only) with a 24vdc power supply, the current was near an ampere instead of the expected 450mA (3 parallel strings of two 150mA tubes in series). Immediately disconnected it!
Checked the tubes, all 12v & the correct types. Checked the wiring and it appears all tubes are wired in parallel for 12-14 volt operation. Is this a known variant? I thought I'd heard of such critters but googling some this evening seemed to inform me that only one R-145 receiver was 14v from the factory.
Thanks,WayneWB4OGM
