[ARC5] USAF usage of the A.R.C. R-22 BCB receiver

They not only read the 27 degrees on the flight plan as 270 but literally flew off into the setting Sun when they should have been flying just a little East of due North.  A passenger asked about that and was told to shaddup, the Captain was a man of vast experience.

But they just punched 270 degrees into the navigation system and let the autopilot do its thing.  When they could not get the VOR they called the desitination airport and asked if it was on, but found they could not get them on VHF comm, either.  So they finally got them on HF and decided to use ADF.to navigate without checking to see if the frequency with the soccer game on it was a station anywhere near the destination. When they went down the search was started near the destination airport but they were only found a few days later when some passengers went looking for help and found a farmhouse with a telephone.

Note this was before they had radar coverage over central Brazil, where they still managed to run an airliner and bizjet into each other decades later.
