I read some accounts of Stalingrad. Some German POWs were detailed to repair a large generator. They assembled it and it worked. But it didn't sound right, so they disassembled it, corrected whatever, then reassmbled it and were satisfied. Their Russian supervisors were astonished; why bother when it worked good enough, even if it would not last?
Another account, from the "World at War" books volume on POWs, German POWs were detailed to load captured German phone and radio electronics into a train car, using shovels. The quota was all-important short - term.
