You can purchase tinned copper sheet, form it over the wood and sweat it on, just like was done originally.  It's just work!  I would use 50/50 solder, and have plenty of  liquid rosin available.
I have done a half dozen or so, years ago.  If you can find an old body man who knows how to work lead, he may be able to help you.
