One book described what occurred when an A-20 unit in Europe was transitioned to the new A-26. They flew their A-20's to an airfield in northern Scotland and were told to leave the engines running, jump out of the airplanes and then advanced the throttles and let them run off the end of the runway, off a cliff and into the ocean.
And in marked contrast to the Martin B-26, B-25's also were replaced by the A-26 but began to replace smaller twin engined trainers even before the war ended and were retained as multiengine trainers as well as hack transports until the late 1950's and in some cases into the mid-60's with Guard units.
