One of my college professors was a Lt in the US Army in the ETO in WWII. Soon after the war was over, his unit, stationed in southern Germany, was told that 100 war weary B-25's would be flown in and they would blow them up and bury them. He had planned to salvage the radios from the bombers and use them to build a radio network for the US forces in southern Germany. But he was told NOT to do that and a General officer came down to make sure he did not. They wrapped primacord around the B-25 aft fuselages and wings, blew them apart, and buried them, radios and all.
Also I have a book that has pictures of P-51's being burned and ripped apart in Germany after the war.
