I have used my GF/RU on our local weekly AM net on 3890
Saturday mornings. The key is to accept and work within
the limitations of an antique rig, just as one would
accept and work within the limitations of a 1920s-30s
automobile. Were there no challenge, there would be
no achievement.

That being said, one can, with some fiddling,
use front-end regeneration to sharpen things
up considerably:

Regen pulls weak AM signal out:

Regen separates between 3890 and 3885.

This works for a receiver you're going to use
for 3870 to 3890; it's not a solution if one
wishes to use the RU for band cruising; it
has to be re-adjusted for big frequency moves.

Details if anyone wants them.
