I think the idea to delete AM BCB reception was associated with something I have noted.  I have a GPS as well as a dash cam, and either of these can be powered either by a cigarette lighter USB adapter or by its own cigarette lighter power supply.  One of the power supplies failed so I went to using the USB adapter; the USB adapter jams out the AM BCB quite thoroughly.

So cars now have so much electronic junk that it will take a special effort to enable AM to work.  And as a college professor once explained to me, "Auto companies will KILL to save 5 cents on the production of a car."
