Yes, that's the way to do it, repair solder a soldering gun using itself.
For some reason this reminded me of years ago, a woman colleague
at work told me she repaired a home lamp, and that she had soldered
it using "liquid solder", no iron required. I never heard of any metal
used for soldering that had that low a melting point. Turned out, i
learned independently of her report, that she had twisted the wires
together and "soldered" them using a solder-colored, nonconducting
glue. It was not the stuff used today to repair circuit boards.
