[ARC5] [Milsurplus] Spare RF ammeter for GO available

Well, that explains why I don’t hear your GO Dave, I never work voice! But it’s nice to know others think they’re good radios. FYI I key mine via the center tap in the 837 filament trans. Yes I know that means VFO and IPA keying, but it’s pretty stable (it does misbehave on occasion though, as many 83 year olds do!), and has a good note as long as one tunes the IPA output for greatest output with no self-oscillation. I’m not into fixing what ain’t broke….

Second that! My GO-9 is a honey.

This one is HF and Power only as well- would love
to find the LF chassis.
All those acres of clean, whole black wrinkle
and all those meters. Mike Hanz was my hero as
he had a replacement meter I needed.

My power supply came gutted so I built one
in the cabinet (The supply tried to kill
me some time ago. See how easy I blame the
inanimate object for my foolishness? ;-).
NOTE: The Filament Voltage meter is calibrated
for 800 cycles. When primary is 50 or 60 Hz, the
meter reads 1 Volt high.

Since the rig keys by grounding the grid circuits,
I used a 115 VAC Dow-Key for antenna switching,
with the AC rectified and going through the relay
coil out to the key.
With the key up, the relay gives me -165 V to
the grid leads for easy grid-block keying.
I inserted an audio transformer in the 803
cathode "center tap" return and feed it
with a nice PA amp. I get a nice, clean
3890 KC 100W carrier AM signal with good
reports.

What really surprised me is the frequency
stability of that rig. I was going to regulate
the 500V, but find I don't need to. After
15-20 minutes, it will stay right on freq
and, if I turn it on next week, it will be
right where I left it. This goes for 40
meters as well I tried it on 20 and it did
work, but I don't remember the drift it had.
Another surpise- On 40 and 80 CW,
very little chirp. And I think the Antenna
Tuning would load up a kite string, if you
keep it wet.

It is on my "keeper" list.
