Many many hamfests ago, a buddy found one of those at the old Grayslake
'fest on the north side of Chicago. After dark when we were just
yakking someone decided we should try it out. I provided the jumper
cables to my 12V battery and before long a jet passed overhead,
descending to land at O'Hare. Naturally we lit it up and thought the
light performed very well - for about the length of time it took to
realize "this is wrong!" and we quickly ended the test and stashed the
light in case anyone came looking for it since our location at a
fairgrounds would have been easy to identify. No one did but it still
amazes me when I hear that some idiot who shines a green laser at a
plane gets caught as it seems like finding a needle in a haystack.
