AP5 is an interesting schematic, many thanks for posting.
Aerial circuit is a balanced wire tuner.
Tx osc tube has selectable switched feedback capacitors like for overtone crystal oscillation.
Regenerative detector.
A lot of function from minimum tube count.

As for the distance, the home station had very good antennas and receivers, trained operators, and higher
powered transmitters.

What I still have NOT been able to figure out, is how German agents in New York state expected to reach home
using makeshift antennas and transmit power less than 20 watts out. Was there a relay station somewhere?
No one knows !
“Agent 146” I read, attended ‘Sharkhunters’ reunions in the Chicago area in the 1980s, but no one among the hosts
was tech enough to ask some intelligent questions like this. Now that opportunity is closed.
