Around 1985 I bought a couple Navy radios TBX in their wood trunks. The original receiver batteries were still there, and minimally swollen if it all.
One B battery still had a volt or two measurable. These batteries were 1945 dated. I have removed batteries from 1960 Forest Service radios where
the batteries were still great for display, practically no, or minimal swelling and of course, zero leakage. Where some of these B batteries did show
swelling beginning, I carefully disassembled the wrapper from the battery and saved the cardboard case for building a battery simulator. Removing
the cardboard case does require a lot of careful work and some luck besides. Not all the patients make it.
