Surprised no one has mentioned 630 meter amateur band operation yet is this discussion of the beacon band part of the spectrum. I dipped my toe into operation there last year and it’s very interesting. While there is a lot of digital FT modes and WSPR activity there is a fair number of people operating on CW. I operated there with my totally stock BC-191 transmitter and it’s TU-25B low frequency tuning unit. Built a Homer Bucket variometer to base load my 80 meter inverted L on 630M against a 20 8 foot elevated 35 foot radial counterpoise. Got out fairly well up to Maine (WA1JAS on another BC-191) NH, NY, PA, and IN. Could hear myself fairly well In SDRs up near Ottawa and down in the DC area as well. An as you’re no doubt wondering, yes the BC-191 chirps even on 474 kHz, but not to badly! Makes 75 watts, as per the set’s tech manual rated output. Mine is powered with the appropriate BD-77 12V/1KV dynamotor.
