It wasn't related to anything. That would have interfered with the STANDARD common tower main transmitting frequency of 278 kHz used from early 1930s to 1950s.
Although rare exceptions existed, almost every tower of that era listened on 3105 kHz and transmitted on 278 kHz.
A beacon band receiver was THE most important and valuable radio any aircraft could possess, even without a transmitter. Such receivers cost as little as $30 in 1946 ($500 today) and almost all had a permanent dial mark for 278 kHz.
A beacon band receiver provided access to the aural directional Adcock beacons on other frequencies that defined the city to city aerial roadways in North America.
There was terminal information and local weather reported on the tower frequency.
