Good morning.
During that era, it was very common to have aircraft transmit
to the ground on HF, often 3105KC or 6210KC at many civilian
facilities (also used by military aircraft at times) and for the
ground station to respond on Longwave- often, IIRC, 286KC but
many others were used. Also, many locations had weather and
Notices to Airmen transmitted on a Longwave frequency.
Towards the end of the war, many of these were moved to a
secondary or legacy role as VHF became more available.
This system of Longwave from the ground continued in use
right into the 1960s and even longer in "the Third World."
