[ARC5] Command Sets for Longer Range?

When I get around to putting together my ARC-5 set up, the T-23/ ARC-5 and the R-28/ARC-5 will be part of that set up. I understand that late in World War II, the T 23 and the R 25 were common sets in the F6F Hellcat. Wreckage of a Hellcat fount on Yap confirms an ARC-5 set in a Hellcat, and anecdotal evidence points to the VHF ARC-5 sets being used in the Hellcat late in the war. The F6F-1 was originally supposed to get the Bendix manufactured ATB transmitter and ARB receiver, but in the case of the ATB ( the ART-13 was accepted over the ATB by the Navy) it is doubtful this actually happened, especially in large numbers.

Early in WW2 an important mission for Scout Bomber Douglas and Scout Bomber 2 Curtiss as well as Grumman TBF's was scouting. The Japanese used floatplanes launched from cruisers for scouting for the fleet but the USN mainly used carrier aircraft. Those Scout Bombers had substantial radio installations, such as the ART-13 in the TBF. But by 1944 the USN was using F6F's for scouting. I presume that reflected better navaids, such as the ARR-2, but I wonder if an ARC-5 installation, with 5 channels of VHF and one of HF, could have been used to report back to the fleet.
